Psilocybin reduced grooming behavior in Wistar rats, indicating a novel role for the 5-HT2B receptor in this process.

  • Psilocybin decreased total grooming time and the number of grooming bouts in Wistar rats.
  • The reduction in grooming was linked to a suppression of abnormal grooming behaviors.
  • RS-127445 reversed the effects of psilocybin on traditional grooming measures.
  • RS-127445 also blocked the selective suppression of specific grooming patterns induced by psilocybin.
  • These findings suggest that psilocybin's effects on grooming behavior are mediated by the 5-HT2B receptor.
