Using active imagination and participation to support healing after psychedelic experiences

Updated

Abstract

The DREAM protocol aims to enhance the integration of psilocybin therapy experiences through a novel processing method.

  • Participatory-imaginal processing may allow patients to engage with their psychedelic experiences without needing to verbalize them.
  • This approach focuses on revisiting somatic, emotional, and imaginative elements of the experience.
  • DREAM, which stands for Drop In, Recount, Enter, Amplify, Merge, is designed to be a structured and teachable clinical method.
  • Pilot studies are in progress to evaluate the feasibility, tolerability, and initial therapeutic relevance of this method.
  • Clinical observations suggest that this mode of processing could help patients identify lasting, embodied touchstones from their experiences.
