Psychedelics and their effects on attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Current human evidence does not support recommendations for psychedelic use in ADHD.

Evidence

This systematic review of APA PsychInfo and MEDLINE found six eligible human studies: one RCT with no statistically important placebo difference, several cross-sectional positive reports, and one ketamine case study.

Caveat

The included evidence is sparse, heterogeneous, and largely observational or self-reported, with unclear relevance of ketamine response in patients with depressive symptoms to ADHD itself.
