Psychedelics and their possible role in recovery after brain injury, based on participant stories

Updated

Abstract

Five adults with traumatic brain injury reported notable short-term cognitive improvements after using psychedelics post-injury.

  • Participants described reductions in anxiety, emotional reactivity, and trauma-related distress after using psychedelics.
  • A perceived enhancement in memory, clarity, and coordination was noted following macrodose experiences.
  • Enhanced self-understanding and identity reconstruction were reported, along with improved self-relationships after injury.
  • Psychedelic experiences appear to be associated with trauma relief and mood stabilization in individuals with TBI.
