Mental health treatments for people with hemophilia

Updated

Abstract

Seven trials involving 362 participants explored psychological interventions for individuals with hemophilia.

  • Evidence was found for four types of psychological interventions, including psycho-education, cognitive therapy, and behavioral therapy.
  • One trial indicated that coping strategies may reduce negative thoughts, but other measures showed little to no difference between treatment groups.
  • Some interventions aimed at children and adolescents showed potential improvements in self-efficacy, but evidence for adults was inconclusive.
  • Quality of life outcomes varied, with some interventions suggesting improvements in mental health but not in physical health.
  • Overall, the evidence quality was low to very low, highlighting the need for caution in interpretation and the development of standardized outcome measures.
