Blocking RAB27A-related small vesicle release reduces growth and spread of small cell lung cancer in lab and animal models

Abstract

A reduction in cellular proliferation was observed in silenced small cell lung cancer (SCLC) cells targeting RAB27A (p < 0.001, p < 0.0001).

  • Inhibition of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) release led to decreased expression of proteins and RNA associated with sEVs secretion.
  • The suppression of sEVs release resulted in significant adverse effects on tumor growth and metastasis in an in vivo model.
  • Targeting RAB27A may provide a potential therapeutic approach for treating SCLC.
  • SCLC could rely on the secretion of sEVs for tumor development and metastatic progression.
