Fast and lasting antidepressant effects of inhaled DMT in hard-to-treat depression

Updated

Abstract

An average reduction of 21.14 points on the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale was observed by day 7 after inhalation of DMT.

  • Depression affects over 185 million people globally, with one-third experiencing treatment-resistant depression.
  • Current antidepressant treatments typically require around 3 weeks to take effect and do not provide immediate anti-suicidal benefits.
  • Inhaled DMT demonstrated rapid and sustained antidepressant effects, with a response rate of 85.71% and a remission rate of 57.14% 7 days post-administration.
  • The treatment was safe and well-tolerated, with manageable psychedelic effects and no serious adverse events reported.
  • Suicidal ideation significantly decreased, with no severe ideation observed the day following DMT dosing.
