Effects of real-time continuous glucose monitoring on type 1 diabetes: a combined analysis of controlled studies

Updated

Abstract

CGM was associated with a 0.24% lower HbA1c compared to SMBG.

  • CGM significantly reduced the risk of severe hypoglycemia compared to SMBG.
  • FGM led to a significant decrease in mild hypoglycemia and increased treatment satisfaction, but did not show a significant impact on HbA1c.
  • Comparing CGM + CSII to SMBG + MDI resulted in a significant reduction in HbA1c.
  • The two trials comparing a CRIS with SMBG + CSII did not find a significant difference in HbA1c levels.
