How Couples' Views of Their Relationship Relate to Inflammation and Insulin Resistance During Cancer

Updated

Abstract

Among 90 cancer survivor-spouse dyads, higher perceived relationship quality was linked to lower inflammation and insulin resistance biomarkers in partners.

  • Positive perceptions of relationship quality by survivors were associated with lower C-reactive protein levels in their spouses.
  • Spouses' positive perceptions of relationship quality correlated with lower insulin resistance in cancer survivors.
  • These findings suggest a potential biological connection between relationship satisfaction and health outcomes in couples facing cancer.
  • A dyadic approach to health may be beneficial for optimizing survivorship health among couples.
