Kidney-protecting effects of dulaglutide by controlling cell changes in people with type 2 diabetes and diabetic kidney disease

Updated

Abstract

Dulaglutide caused significant reductions in urinary albumin in patients with type 2 diabetes and diabetic kidney disease (DKD).

  • The intervention group showed significantly lower changes in urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) compared to the control group at both 6 months (p < 0.01) and 12 months (p < 0.05).
  • Dulaglutide treatment was associated with increased levels of the epithelial marker E-cadherin.
  • The treatment also inhibited the mesenchymal marker periostin.
  • No significant differences in the frequency of gastrointestinal adverse events were observed between the groups.
  • There were no significant increases in hypoglycemic events during the treatment period.
