Effects of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Drugs on Reproduction and Women's Health in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Updated

Abstract

Twenty-eight studies indicate that GLP-1 receptor agonists may improve key reproductive and gynecologic outcomes in women with PCOS.

  • GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy is associated with reductions in biochemical markers of hyperandrogenism, such as total testosterone and androstenedione.
  • Improvements in menstrual regularity and reductions in amenorrhea were frequently reported among the studies.
  • Limited evidence suggests potential increases in ovulation rates and pregnancy rates, especially when combined with metformin.
  • Significant improvements in body weight, body mass index, and insulin resistance were observed across nearly all included studies.
  • Considerable variability in study design and outcomes limits the ability to quantitatively synthesize results.
