Review of models predicting disability risk in older adults

Updated

Abstract

A total of 17 prediction models for in older adults were included in the review.

  • The sample sizes of the included studies ranged from 420 to 90,889 participants.
  • Model performance, as measured by the C statistic or area under the curve (AUC), varied, with scores between 0.650 and 0.853; nine models exceeded an AUC of 0.75.
  • Common predictors of disability included age, chronic disease, gender, self-rated health, body mass index (BMI), drinking, smoking, and education level.
  • All included studies were assessed at high risk of bias, with ten studies also showing high concerns regarding applicability.
  • Only two models were determined to have clinical value based on the evaluation criteria.
