Measured sitting time and physical activity in Finnish adults

Participants were sedentary 59% of their waking time, primarily while sitting.

  • On average, participants engaged in 17% of their waking hours standing still and 15% in light-intensity physical activity.
  • Moderate physical activity accounted for 9% of their time, while vigorous physical activity was less than 1%.
  • Individuals aged 30-39 years had the highest daily breaks from sedentary behavior.
  • Younger participants (under 30 years) demonstrated more moderate and vigorous physical activity compared to those aged 60 years and older.
  • The group aged 30-60 years exhibited the highest levels of light physical activity.
