Semaglutide use for weight loss in obese adults on dialysis across multiple centers

Of 396 patients with obesity on hemodialysis, 41 (16%) received semaglutide treatment.

  • Semaglutide treatment resulted in a statistically significant average body weight loss of -3.88 kg after 12 months compared to a -0.52 kg loss in the control group.
  • At 3 months, the percentage change in body weight for semaglutide users was -2.26%, with statistical significance (p = .002).
  • The estimated change in (BMI) for semaglutide users was significant at 3 months, with a reduction of -0.87 kg/m² (p < .001).
  • Adverse events led to treatment discontinuation in 32% of participants receiving semaglutide.
