Short-term benefits and side effects of semaglutide plus dapagliflozin in type 2 diabetes patients with kidney disease

Updated

Abstract

In a study of 126 patients, the combination of semaglutide and dapagliflozin resulted in greater short-term improvements in key health indicators than either treatment alone.

  • After 8 weeks, fasting plasma glucose, postprandial plasma glucose, hemoglobin A1c, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, urinary protein, and inflammatory markers were significantly reduced in all treatment groups.
  • The combination treatment group exhibited greater reductions in glycemic indices, renal function-related parameters, and inflammatory markers compared to either monotherapy group.
  • Clinical response rate was significantly higher in the combination group than in those receiving only dapagliflozin or semaglutide.
  • No increase in adverse events was recorded during the 8-week treatment period.
  • Findings are based on a retrospective study with a modest sample size and short observation period, warranting caution in interpreting long-term benefits.
