Semaglutide’s safety, effectiveness, and practical use for weight loss in adults without diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Semaglutide 2.4 mg appears to produce substantial weight loss in non-diabetic adults, but access, tolerability, and durability shape its real-world usefulness.

Evidence

This narrative review synthesized 27 studies from 2019-2025, including randomized trials, observational studies, and qualitative reports on semaglutide for weight management in adults without diabetes.

Caveat

The review reports gastrointestinal discontinuation, high out-of-pocket costs, supply limits, and weight regain after stopping, with a need for long-term durability and head-to-head incretin trials.
