Patterns of Starting Semaglutide and Tirzepatide and Their Link to Weight Loss in Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases

Updated

Abstract

Essence

In patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, semaglutide and tirzepatide use increased over time and was linked to meaningful 12-month weight loss, especially with tirzepatide.

Evidence

This retrospective registry analysis of 60,198 adults with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases found 12-month weight loss of 5.8% with semaglutide and 8.2% with tirzepatide, with greater loss for tirzepatide and for patients without diabetes.

Caveat

Because this was an observational registry study rather than a randomized comparison, differences between drugs and subgroups may reflect baseline confounding.
