Weight Loss from Semaglutide Mainly Drives Liver Health Improvements in Type 2 Diabetes Patients with Fatty Liver Disease

Updated

Abstract

A total of 111 patients with type 2 diabetes and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease received semaglutide for a median of 12 months.

  • Semaglutide treatment resulted in an overall drop in glycated hemoglobin of 5.6% and a weight loss of 10%.
  • Statistically significant reductions were observed in all liver enzymes and elastographic parameters.
  • Weight loss independently predicted improvements in liver enzyme levels and steatosis measurements.
  • Improvements in hepatic parameters occurred even in patients with normal baseline liver enzymes.
