Removing Aging Cells May Reduce Irregular Heartbeats in Older Rabbits

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Senescent atrial cells may help create an inflammatory, arrhythmia-prone substrate in aging hearts, and fisetin reduced that vulnerability in rabbits.

Evidence

Preclinical rabbit experiments compared young and aged atria using optical mapping, patch-clamp, histology, molecular analyses, human atrial specimens, and short-term fisetin treatment in aged rabbits.

Caveat

The therapeutic result comes from short-term senolytic treatment in aging rabbits, with human data limited to atrial specimen associations rather than clinical fisetin outcomes.
