Differences Between Boys and Girls in Body Clock Timing and Night Length During Adolescence

Updated

Abstract

DLMO occurred an average of 96 minutes earlier in females compared to males during adolescence.

  • The time between DLMO and bedtime was an average of 56 minutes greater in females.
  • Biological night duration (time between DLMO and DLMOff) was 60 minutes longer in females than in males.
  • No significant differences were observed in bedtimes and waketimes between the sexes.
  • Sex remained a significant predictor of DLMO even after adjusting for bedtime differences.
  • No differences were found in DLMOff or the phase angle between DLMOff and waketime by sex.
