Men and women respond differently to oral versus injected semaglutide in type 2 diabetes over 12 months

Updated

Abstract

Two-hundred and twelve patients with type 2 diabetes were included in a study comparing oral and subcutaneous semaglutide.

  • Subcutaneous semaglutide led to significant weight loss, improved blood sugar control, and lower LDL cholesterol in men compared to the oral formulation.
  • Women receiving subcutaneous semaglutide experienced a significant reduction in liver fat compared to men.
  • Subcutaneous semaglutide resulted in greater liver enzyme reductions in women compared to men.
  • These findings indicate potential sex-based differences in responses to semaglutide formulations in type 2 diabetes treatment.
