Comparing SGLT2 inhibitors, semaglutide, and finerenone for diabetic kidney disease using network analysis

Updated

Abstract

The 2024 FLOW trial established semaglutide as the first GLP-1 receptor agonist to show a dedicated primary renal outcome benefit.

  • SGLT2 inhibitors, semaglutide, and finerenone are compared based on their effectiveness and safety in treating type 2 diabetes with chronic kidney disease.
  • A Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate these three therapies, all having contemporary phase 3 cardiorenal evidence.
  • Patients with diabetic kidney disease continue to experience significant residual risks despite optimal treatment with renin-angiotensin system blockade.
