Updated

Abstract

Night shift work resulted in a reduction in food and coffee intake during work hours.

  • No changes in energy, nutrient intake, or coffee/tea consumption were found between 8-hour morning and afternoon shifts.
  • Night shift workers showed a redistribution of food and coffee intake without an overall reduction in 24-hour consumption.
  • Energy intake and food quality remained stable across shifts, with the exception of lower carbohydrate intake for day- and three-shift workers during days off.
  • Alcohol consumption increased for all groups during days off.
