Shift work and unhealthy weight in nurses and midwives
Updated
Abstract
Among 2494 female nurses and midwives, 31.8% were overweight and 26.9% were obese.
- Shift workers were 1.15 times more likely to be overweight or obese compared to day workers.
- The association between shift work and unhealthy weight remained significant after adjusting for confounding factors.
- Only 1% of participants were classified as underweight.
- Longitudinal studies are planned to further explore the relationship between shift work and weight issues.
