Abstract
A systematic review of eight randomized controlled trials (n = 493) reveals insufficient evidence to establish the skeletal effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs).
- The review evaluated the effects of four different GLP-1 receptor agonists on bone mineral density using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.
- Findings were reported separately for each agent due to significant differences in their weight-lowering potency.
- The evidence regarding skeletal effects is sparse for each GLP-1 receptor agonist.
- Current data do not support definitive conclusions about the impact of GLP-1 RA therapy on bone health.
