The prevalence of skipping breakfast among Brazilian adolescents is 68.7%.

  • Skipping breakfast is associated with a 30% higher likelihood of excess body weight.
  • There is a 27% increased risk of central obesity measured by waist circumference for those who skip breakfast.
  • A 32% higher risk of central obesity is also observed when using the waist:height ratio.
  • Adolescents who skip breakfast have 54% higher fasting glucose levels.
  • Higher fasting insulin levels are associated with skipping breakfast, showing a 64% increased risk.
  • Skipping breakfast is linked to a 14% higher total cholesterol level.
