Sleep problems may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease: A genetic study

Updated

Abstract

A positive causal association between sleep duration and the onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD) was found, with an odds ratio of 1.002.

  • Increasing sleep duration is associated with a higher risk of developing AD.
  • In multivariate analysis, sleep duration remained a significant factor linked to AD risk.
  • Daytime napping may have a protective effect against the onset of AD, with an odds ratio of 0.995.
  • No evidence of horizontal pleiotropy was detected, suggesting the causal relationships are robust.
  • Heterogeneity analysis indicated no significant variations in the results.
