The 1-month prevalence of sleep disturbance among heroin-dependent patients was 76.3%.

  • Heroin users with sleep disturbance experienced more life events in the previous year.
  • This group had a higher rate of unemployment and greater cigarette consumption.
  • They also reported more substance-related criminal convictions and a longer duration of heroin use.
  • Individuals with sleep disturbance showed greater severity of dependence and depression.
  • Lower physical health-related quality of life was noted in those with sleep disturbance.
