Sleep patterns in epilepsy patients taking one medication versus multiple medications

Updated

Abstract

Patients on polytherapy reported significantly higher rates of insomnia and excessive daytime sleepiness compared to those on monotherapy.

  • 176 epilepsy patients were evaluated for sleep disturbances using structured questionnaires.
  • No significant difference in overall sleep quality was observed between patients on monotherapy and those on polytherapy.
  • Depressive mood was identified as a strong predictor of sleep disturbances in the patient population.
  • The type of anti-seizure medication treatment did not independently predict the occurrence of sleep issues.
