Reducing smartphone screen time may improve mental health: a controlled trial

Essence

Cutting smartphone to 2 hours per day for 3 weeks improved stress, , sleep quality, and in healthy students.

Evidence

This non-blinded parallel randomized controlled trial assigned 111 healthy students to screen-time reduction or control and found small to medium post-intervention effects across all four mental health measures.

Caveat

The trial was short, non-blinded, and the screen-time reduction faded after the intervention, with follow-up use returning toward baseline.
