Smell and Taste Problems in People Using Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonist Medicines
Updated
Abstract
Patients using GLP-1 receptor agonists have a 48% increased risk of experiencing smell and taste disturbances.
- The study involved 438,474 patients in both the GLP-1 RA group and the control group.
- Patients treated with GLP-1 RAs showed a hazard ratio of 1.48 for overall smell and taste disturbances compared to controls.
- The risk of smell disturbances was particularly high, with a hazard ratio of 1.81.
- Taste disturbances were also more common among GLP-1 RA users, with a hazard ratio of 1.52.
- These associations were consistent over a follow-up period ranging from 3 months to 2 years.
