Social housing significantly suppressed food anticipatory activity (FAA) in group-housed mice compared to singly housed controls.

  • Food anticipatory activity is characterized by increased movement before feeding times.
  • Group-housed mice exhibited a more pronounced suppression of FAA than singly housed mice.
  • Both male and female mice showed reduced FAA in social settings, with males affected more significantly.
  • Increases in body temperature before feeding were notably reduced in group-housed mice.
  • These findings suggest that social context influences food-entrained circadian rhythms.
