Abstract

Swi treatment significantly reduced levels of urinary protein, uric acid, creatinine, and urea nitrogen in diabetic nephropathy (DN) rats.

  • Swi is associated with improved renal function as indicated by reductions in biomarkers linked to kidney damage.
  • Pathological improvements included decreased thickness of the tubular basement membrane and reduced fibrosis.
  • Increased numbers of autolysosomes were observed, particularly with high-dose Swi, suggesting enhanced cellular cleanup processes.
  • Swi treatment elevated levels of proteins related to autophagy, while decreasing markers of injury and extracellular matrix accumulation.
  • The mechanism of Swi's action may involve activation of the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 signaling pathway, enhancing autophagy and reducing oxidative stress.
