Symptoms, virus levels, and antibody responses to the original COVID-19 strain in outpatients living together

Updated

Abstract

Essence

In a pre-vaccine household cohort, non-severe D614G SARS-CoV-2 ranged from asymptomatic infection to fever and anosmia, with higher day-28 antibodies linked to later PASC symptoms.

Evidence

A US outpatient household cohort followed 143 early PCR-positive, antibody-negative infections from April to November 2020 with daily symptom diaries, serial nasal viral loads, serology, and an 8-10 month subset assessment.

Caveat

The antibody-PASC link is observational and based on a subset assessed months later during the ancestral D614G, pre-vaccine period.
