Abstract

Terpinen-4-ol (T4O) improved blood glucose levels and insulin resistance in diabetic mice.

  • T4O reduced the expression of dedifferentiation markers in pancreatic β-cells.
  • Increased levels of mitochondrial autophagy-related proteins were observed with T4O treatment.
  • T4O alleviated high glucose-induced mitochondrial damage, including decreased membrane potential and elevated reactive oxygen species.
  • Preincubation with T4O reduced mitochondrial calcium overload and inhibited pancreatic β-cell dedifferentiation.
  • T4O was found to promote the degradation of MCU through Parkin-mediated ubiquitination.
