Cisplatin-induced senescent cells enhance the detachment of high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) cells in vitro and dissemination in vivo.

  • Senescent cells secrete factors known as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP).
  • Fructose is identified as a metabolic component of the SASP that promotes cell detachment.
  • A high-fructose diet is associated with increased dissemination of HGSOC in animal models.
  • Complex I is identified as a driver of SASP-mediated cell detachment and HGSOC dissemination.
  • SASP may inhibit a specific metabolic pathway, leading to decreased plasma membrane cholesterol and increased cell detachment.
