Third COVID-19 Vaccine Dose and Its Link to Long COVID in Adults After Initial Vaccination

Updated

Abstract

0.9% of individuals who received a third COVID-19 vaccine dose experienced long COVID at 6 months.

  • At 6 months, long COVID incidence was 0.9% for those with a third dose and 1.0% for those without.
  • At 12 months, incidence was 4.9% with a third dose compared to 4.5% without.
  • The differences in long COVID incidence between those who received a third dose and those who did not were not significant.
  • Receiving a third dose may not lower the risk of long COVID compared to just completing the primary vaccine series.
  • Long COVID was defined as new symptoms with activity limitations appearing after 3 months post-infection.
