Comparing the effectiveness and safety of Tirzepatide and oral Semaglutide for treating overweight and obesity

Abstract

Tirzepatide 10 and 15 mg were associated with a mean weight reduction of -4.48% and -5.59% compared to oral semaglutide.

  • Tirzepatide at 10 mg and 15 mg led to greater reductions in waist circumference of -3.60 cm and -4.32 cm, respectively.
  • Participants using tirzepatide had higher odds of achieving weight reductions of ≥ 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% compared to those on oral semaglutide.
  • Cardiometabolic benefits associated with tirzepatide were improved or generally comparable to those of oral semaglutide.
  • The study included adults with obesity or overweight without type 2 diabetes, using network meta-regression to address trial differences.
