Direct comparison of tirzepatide and semaglutide for weight loss

Updated

Abstract

Tirzepatide was associated with a 4.61% greater percentage body weight reduction compared to semaglutide.

  • Tirzepatide resulted in an absolute weight loss of 4.76 kg more than semaglutide.
  • Participants receiving tirzepatide were more likely to achieve weight loss thresholds of ≥ 5 %, ≥ 10 %, ≥ 15 %, and ≥ 20 % compared to those on semaglutide.
  • The odds of achieving ≥ 5 % weight loss with tirzepatide were 1.52 times higher than with semaglutide.
  • The odds of achieving ≥ 10 % weight loss with tirzepatide were 2.33 times higher than with semaglutide.
  • The findings indicate high heterogeneity and observational data, limiting the ability to draw causal conclusions.
