Tirzepatide treatment lowers hidden valve blood clots and leaks after aortic valve replacement in obese patients

Abstract

Tirzepatide therapy reduced the incidence of subclinical leaflet thrombosis (HALT) to 8.4% compared to 21.6% in standard care at 6 months.

  • Tirzepatide also decreased the incidence of ≥ mild paravalvular leak (PVL) to 10.7% compared to 25.3% in the control group.
  • Significant reductions in inflammatory marker CRP and body weight were observed with tirzepatide treatment.
  • No increase in major bleeding events was associated with tirzepatide therapy.
  • Multivariable analysis indicated that tirzepatide use, along with a CRP reduction greater than 30% and a BMI below 32 kg/m, were independent predictors of HALT absence.
  • These findings suggest that metabolic modulation may enhance post-TAVR valve healing in obese patients.
