Communication between fish rod horizontal cells changes with light and dopamine but not the eye’s internal clock

Updated

Abstract

Approximately 120 rod horizontal cells are coupled to one another under dark-adapted conditions.

  • Rod horizontal cells exhibit extensive homologous coupling in darkness.
  • Light stimulation reduces the extent of coupling by about 90%.
  • Dopamine D1-receptor activation also decreases coupling during both subjective day and night.
  • Coupling behavior in rod horizontal cells remains consistent regardless of the circadian clock's influence.
