How Crossing Time Zones Affects Physical Health in Female Volleyball Players

Abstract

Significant changes in resting heart rate were observed in female volleyball athletes after a season of transmeridian travel, with pre-season values at 57.36 bpm and post-season values at 63.95 bpm.

  • Systolic blood pressure increased from 110.27 mmHg to 114.50 mmHg after the season.
  • Diastolic blood pressure rose from 65.28 mmHg to 70.08 mmHg during the same period.
  • Hip circumference decreased from 96.49 cm to 93.97 cm, while waist circumference increased from 76.61 cm to 78.67 cm.
  • Trunk body fat percentage increased from 27.82% to 30.72%.
  • Salivary cortisol levels nearly doubled, rising from 13.24 nmol/L to 25.79 nmol/L.
  • Leg bone mineral density showed a slight increase from 1.427 g/cm² to 1.459 g/cm².
