Greater fatigue and sleepiness, along with less sleep, significantly increased the odds of public complaints against police officers.

  • Fatigue and sleepiness predicted a higher likelihood of receiving public complaints.
  • Working back-to-back night shifts was associated with a 4.27 times increase in the odds of public complaints.
  • The odds of public complaints increased to 4.73 when off-duty court hours were worked between night shifts.
  • Less sleep in the 24 hours prior to a shift was linked to a higher risk of public complaints.
