Feixin decoction may help regulate the gut-lung connection in low-oxygen lung high blood pressure

Abstract

Feixin decoction (FXD) significantly improved pulmonary vascular remodeling and right ventricular hypertrophy in hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) rat models.

  • FXD treatment reduced systemic inflammation and restored intestinal barrier function in HPH rats.
  • The decoction partially normalized gut microbiota by increasing beneficial species like Lactobacillus while decreasing harmful genera such as Escherichia-Shigella.
  • Beneficial metabolites, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), were elevated, while pro-inflammatory 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) levels decreased following FXD administration.
  • Gut microbiota modulation was identified as a key mechanism behind FXD's therapeutic effects on HPH.
  • FXD's protective effects may involve inhibition of the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway.
