Genetic Links Between Ankylosing Spondylitis and IgA Kidney Disease from Data Analysis

Updated

Abstract

MR analysis indicates a protective causal relationship between ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and IgA nephropathy (IgAN) with an odds ratio of 0.552.

  • 24 independent genetic variants linked to AS were identified.
  • A total of 332 genes were found to be differentially expressed in IgAN, while 5,521 genes were identified for AS, with 59 genes common to both conditions.
  • Functional enrichment analysis revealed significant alterations across various biological processes and pathways connecting AS and IgAN.
  • Eight hub genes were identified in the protein-protein interaction network, with CX3CR1 being a key gene associated with both diseases.
  • External validation supported the involvement of CX3CR1 in the relationship between AS and IgAN.
