Measuring Daily Physical Activity with Digital Tools in People Living in the Community with Memory Problems

Updated

Abstract

A total of 33 articles were included in the systematic review assessing habitual physical activity in people with dementia and mild cognitive impairment.

  • Accelerometers worn on the wrist or lower back were the most common tools used to measure habitual physical activity.
  • Metrics related to volume, such as daily steps, were the most frequently reported measures of habitual physical activity.
  • Individuals with dementia exhibited lower volumes, intensities, and variability in habitual physical activity compared to controls.
  • People with mild cognitive impairment displayed varied habitual physical activity patterns, differing from those of controls.
  • Limitations in the current literature include a lack of standardization in measurement methods and limited longitudinal studies.
