Visceral Fat is Linked to Narrowing Crohn's Disease, Gut Inflammation, and Quality of Life

Updated

Abstract

VAT:SAT was positively associated with stricturing disease behavior (log odds ratio 1.7; P = 0.01).

  • Elevated VAT:SAT is linked to increased fecal calprotectin levels in patients with ileocolonic Crohn's disease (β, 1.3; P = 0.01).
  • Lower quality of life scores are associated with higher VAT:SAT, especially in individuals with ileal disease (β, -12; P = 0.05).
  • No prospective associations were found between changes in VAT measurements and the time to surgery or hospitalization.
  • Body mass index did not correlate with disease behavior, activity, or quality of life in this cohort.
