Details and activity of the egg yolk protein gene in the mud crab Scylla paramamosain

The full-length cDNA of Vitellogenin (Vtg) from the green mud crab Scylla paramamosain measures 7816 bp and encodes 2560 amino acids.

• A specific expression pattern of the Sp-vtg gene was identified in the ovaries and hepatopancreas.
• Expression levels of the Sp-vtg gene increased as the ovaries developed, remaining stable after stage IV.
• In situ hybridization showed positive signals of the Sp-vtg gene in oocyte cytoplasm during stage I and in follicle cells by stage III.
• Signals of the Sp-vtg gene intensified during ovarian development, peaking at stage V.
• Positive signals were also detected in the hepatopancreatic tubule, with increasing intensity throughout development.
