Comparison of Vortioxetine and Escitalopram on Sexual Problems in Adults with Well-Controlled Depression Using SSRIs

Updated

Abstract

Vortioxetine resulted in a 2.2 point greater improvement in sexual functioning compared to escitalopram after 8 weeks.

  • Improvements in sexual functioning were assessed using the Changes in Sexual Functioning Questionnaire Short Form (CSFQ-14).
  • Significant benefits of vortioxetine over escitalopram were observed across four of five dimensions and all three phases of sexual functioning.
  • Both treatment groups showed similar levels of antidepressant efficacy, with slight improvements in depression ratings.
  • The safety profiles for vortioxetine and escitalopram were comparable to those in previous studies.
  • Nausea was the most common adverse event leading to discontinuation of vortioxetine, affecting 4.0% of participants.
