The wearable microneedle patch demonstrated a limit of detection of 0.17 μM for uric acid in interstitial fluid.

  • The microneedle patch integrates an antimicrobial layer to prevent infection and an antifouling layer to minimize nonspecific adsorption.
  • It is composed of materials that allow for skin penetration, interstitial fluid collection, and effective signal transmission to the sensing layer.
  • The sensing layer can detect uric acid levels in a linear range from 0.5 μM to 2.5 μM and from 9.6 μM to 2.15 mM.
  • The sensor accurately monitored uric acid levels in the interstitial fluid of mice without significant biofouling.
  • This design may facilitate noninvasive, continuous health monitoring in a personalized and decentralized manner.
